Ivelina E. Benitez
As a lawyer, educator, consultant, and native Washingtonian, Ivelina has worked tirelessly to improve her community and serve the needs of youth and families throughout the region. She comes to Playtime from Latin American Youth Center, where she served as a consultant at all of its sites and later became Deputy Director of Education where she focused on various education initiatives, including increased college access services, workforce development training, parent and family engagement initiatives, program implementation, grant compliance and oversight.
Ivelina served five years with the District of Columbia Public School system, where she coordinated several education initiatives that helped increase graduation rates by 20% at one of the city’s most at-risk high schools. She also taught Spanish at an elementary school in Ward 8. She began her career at CentroNía (formerly Calvary Bilingual Multicultural Learning Center), which provides early-childhood and before- and after-school services to low-income families. Ivelina is a certified mediator and seeks to expand her advocacy and conflict resolution services through family mediation. She received her juris doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.
