Emily Murphy

Growing up around Chicago, Emily is passionate about advocating for equity in underserved communities, especially in city landscapes. Studying photography at Trinity Christian College of Palos Heights, Ill., allowed her to focus many projects on telling the story of underserved communities in Chicago through photojournalism. Upon graduating, she launched her career in development as a way to pursue avenues to advance the storytelling and programs being done by nonprofits. Since moving to Washington, D.C., in March 2020, Emily hopes to continue meaningful conversations about what it looks like to support a fruitful community and the steps it takes to get there. She loves her work at Playtime as the development and database manager where she continues to expand her knowledge in development and creatively analyze and utilize the database to strengthen program, communication, and fundraising efforts. Outside of work, you can find Emily exploring the city with her husband and toddler or relaxing at home with a fresh cup of brewed coffee in hand and her cat snuggling nearby.
