Ja’Sent Brown

Ja’Sent is the Chief Impact Officer at DC Central Kitchen. For over 13 years, she worked with various District of Columbia government programs to provide equal access and an appropriate educational setting for disconnected children and youth, youth receiving specialized educational services, and youth and their families experiencing homelessness. During her tenure, she created an algorithm for how to navigate D.C. government programs and created authentic collaborations that benefit some of the most at-risk populations in the District. In 2008, Ja’Sent served as the Homeless Education State Education Coordinator for the D.C. Office of the State Superintendent of Education. In this role, she provided oversight of all homeless education services throughout the public school system, ensuring that all students identified as experiencing homelessness had the same access as any other permanently housed student. She also managed the grant funding for homeless students in both D.C. Public Schools and D.C. Public Charter Schools. From 2014-2019, Ja’Sent served as the director of the D.C. ReEngagement Center (REC), which gives youth ages 16-24 who have dropped out of high school access to educational options and other critical services to support getting a high-school diploma or GED.

Ja’Sent serves as the historian on the executive board for the Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She graduated from the University of the District of Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in English and earned her Master of Social Work from Walden University. She is the proud wife of a 5th District police officer and mother of two.
